montgomery county Newborn Photographer/Is My Baby Too Old For Newborn Pictures?
As a general rule of thumb, newborn sessions are typically scheduled in the first two weeks following birth. In the first few weeks of your baby’s arrival, he/she is still familiar with being in the womb. This means they’re more flexible, easier to pose, as well as remain in a deep sleep. This slowly starts to shift after week two, making it more challenging to capture those sleepy baby poses. If baby is awake, it can be more difficult to get he/she in a relaxed state. I find swaddling baby helps them feel more safe and comfortable.
That said, every baby is different, and each session is different. Sometimes older babies have better sessions than younger babies.
I received a call from Taylor’s Grandmother, who wished to gift her sons family with a newborn photography session. Taylor was three weeks old at the time of her session, and she expressed concern about missing the desired window. We went for it, and were pleasantly surprised how easy the session flowed. Taylor was an easy baby to work with, and beyond gorgeous to photograph. While I encourage Moms to schedule their session date before delivery, I also believe that older newborns sessions are just as important to capture the newest addition to your family.
I wanted to share this story, because your baby will only be this small for a very short period of time. Don’t let this time slip away. Contact me today to capture your memories!
Thanks to baby Taylor’s Mom, Dad, TT, and big brother, for letting me be a part of this special time!
