What to Wear for your Spring/Summer Family Photoshoot

Help, what should I wear for my Spring/Summer family photoshoot??? Spring and summer is a great time of year to schedule your family portraits. I love natural light outdoor photos, and blooming backdrop!

Here are a few do’s and don’ts for what to wear for your family photoshoot:

Choose varying shades of the same colors for family pictures,  instead of trying to match perfectly. This gives some variety, while reflecting everyones personality and style.

A good place to start is to select a color family, and then choose your accent colors. Start with neutral colors, then add a splash of color! I love warm and neutral color schemes, with a touch of color.

Do…

Mix in patterns. It’s a great way to keep the look unique. I recommend utilizing textures like an eyelet design, linen, denim and lace, just to name a few. These fabrics photograph beautifully. In addition, layering is also a great way to add some versatility to your look.

Don’t…

Leave the large logos, busy patterns, baseball caps and bright fluorescent colors behind. Bright colors can leave behind an unflattering color cast on your skin.

Let’s talk about accessories!

Accessories are an easy way to add personality to everyone’s look. A scarf, statement necklace, hair accessory, or even a stylish hat, that can be taken on and off. It’s a great way to add variety to your look.

Think about your location as well!

In addition, when styling your Spring/Summer family for photos, think about the location as well, when choosing your outfits and accessories. Your location has a huge impact on your session! Therefore, not only the location of your session, but where you will display the portraits in your home. Keep both of these in mind.
